In 1814 after 10 years of reign Napoleon Bonaparte was banned to this villa on the island Elba for the coast of Italy. He escaped within a year to once again become the Emperor of France, although not for a long time. In June 1815 he lost the decisive battle at Waterloo and was banned to Sint-Helena where he eventually died.
